Exclusive Interview with Tobias Sammet

1) Are you  happy with this new internet revolution going o around you?

Happy is the wrong word, I think it's exciting to be able to spread news directly instead of having some of the press filter and distort things. But on the other hand: It's an information overkill from all sides, everybody gets news from everyone. That's why on our website we try to focus on just important things, and twitter is just a funny thing to post unimportant things every now and then.

2) Do you have any idea of how many songs did you allready compose in your career?
(including Edguy and Avantasia)
I don't know, I'd say between 120 and 180.
Not too bad.

3) Is there any musician that you will love to work with and yet you couldnt get?
There are some, like for example Paul Stanely of KISS, Jon Bon Jovi, Angus Young. But it is not my top priority, I have been blessed to be able to work with some of the greatest musicians on earth, so I won't complain. I don't wake up every morning and say to myself: You have to work with Jon Bon Jovi soon. Most likely it will never happen, and I am totally depressed, haha.

4) Is there any chance that Avantasia will tour again, or is way more than a titanic task?

It was not a titanic task last time, the titanic ended in a desaster, Avantasia doesn't! But to answer your question: I don't plan it and I don't think so. But if the demand is there we'll think about it. But I don't have the feeling it will happen. Last time we did it the stars seemed to have lined up, the time was right. But it is difficult to get all the individual schedules together, to get the enormous amounts of money from the promoters to finance such a giant tour tross. All that.

5) Did you ever consider to produce another band ?
I am an artist. I don't wanna be a producer for other bands. I am not the kind of guy sitting in a studio looking through a window and telling other people what to do. If it's my music, I am willing to go through that, but for nobody else, I just don't feel the motivation. Instead I wanna sit at home and write my own stuff. I easily get the feeling that I waste my time, when I do things that I don't enjoy. And I don't enjoy telling people that their guitar playing is not good yet, I don't blame them because we all have to learn and move on. But I don't wanna tell other people, that is not my business...
